Tinakori Village Footpath Plaques

Recently Avis Higgs stepped onto her own plaque – one of a number celebrating artists, writers, film makers, and composers who have lived or worked in Thorndon, Wellington.

Organised by the local Tinakori Road store owners in conjunction with the urban designers of the Wellington City Council and the Thorndon Society as an upgrade to the retail centre and to promote Thorndon’s history as a hub of artistic talent.

Others honoured include Frances Hodgkins, Katherine Mansfield, Charles Heaphy, Rita Angus, Thomas McCormack, Douglas Lilburn, Jane Campion, Dame Janet Paul, Dorothy K. Richmond, Kirsty Gunn and Valerie Beere (Avis’s sister in law).

Clyde Quay Apartments

The new Clyde Quay apartments developed by Willis Bond with Athfield Architects have installed carpet by Dilana in many of the landings. Three designs were chosen by different artists. Avis Higgs’ Flax design is featured on various landings in several different colourways.

Bungalow Book

Avis’s Karaka Bay house where she spent her childhood features in the newly published book ‘Bungalow, from ‘Heritage to Contemporary’ edited by Nicole Stock with photographs by Patrick Reynolds and published by Random House.
